Frequently asked questions
-
Why should I use the installer from the HomeServe contractor network versus my local electrician?
To ensure a good customer experience, HomeServe will directly manage the appointment scheduling with the contractor. We will also address any other customer service needs should they arise. We also ensure that the electrician will do a good job and offer a 90-day guarantee. If you hire an electrician yourself, the hassle of finding an electrician, scheduling and follow-up will fall to you.
-
Can I buy an EV charger from HomeServe?
No. HomeServe and its network of contractors don’t sell EV chargers. You should plan to have your Level 2 EV charger purchased and ready when the electrician arrives. The electrician will need to look at the installation specifications and amperage requirements of the charger.
-
Should I notify my utility?
Yes. Your utility may have special EV programs you can take advantage of, such as rebates or special energy rates. Please contact your utility directly with any questions.
-
Can I get my charger installed outside?
Yes. An electrician can safely run wiring outside of your home to install the Level 2 EV charger. You’ll need to find a sturdy place to mount the charger, or a mounting solution can be provided by the electrician.
-
Can I install the EV charger myself?
Installing the electrical circuit to support a level 2 EV charger is a job best left to a licensed electrician because of the potential complexity in adding a new circuit with the required electrical load. Keep in mind that a permit will likely be required including an inspection by a local municipality or authority.
-
What quality of repair can I expect?
HomeServe’s network of local, licensed and insured electricians perform EV charger installations, which are guaranteed for 90 days.

What COVID-19 precautions are taken before and during service calls to customers' homes?
HomeServe follows procedures to ensure the health and well-being of all contractors and customers. Before a technician arrives at your home, HomeServe will ask a few questions pertaining to the risk of transmission. (The technician may also ask these questions again upon arrival.) In addition, technicians are required to take their temperature before reporting for work and to keep a safe distance from customers during the service. To make the entire process “touchless,” HomeServe no longer requires a customer signature on job invoices.
