Savings Account Left Untouched After Major Sewer Line Repair

Sherel T. of Crosby, Texas, knows what it’s like when life throws you a curveball. She’d just semi-retired to take care of her elderly mother, who was recovering from a broken femur and needed help with just about everything, including using Sherel’s guest bathroom. So, when the toilet in that bathroom started backing up with water for no clear reason, it was just another unwelcome blip on the radar.

Sherel wasn’t sure what caused the problem or if her mom had anything to do with it, but with her hands full as a caregiver, she didn’t want to risk a messy plumbing disaster. Luckily, just over a year beforehand, her sister had talked her into signing up for an exterior sewer line plan from HomeServe after they received some information on it via mail through their utility, CenterPoint.

“Nobody thinks anything will happen like this in their home,” Sherel said, “But then I realized our house is older and it’s probably worth it to sign up – so I did.”

She called HomeServe and they sent out Double J’s Plumbing, a reliable local company in the HomeServe contractor network. The team snaked the sewer line and used a high-pressure water jet, which fixed things for a few days. But soon, the toilet wouldn’t flush at all. Sherel got in touch with HomeServe again and Double J’s came right back, this time with a camera to scope out the line. They found a break in the sewer line and several spots where tree roots had punctured the pipe.

Double J’s Plumbing got to work replacing the damaged section, a full 55 feet of sewer line.

“They did a great job and we’ve had no issues since,” Sherel said. She was especially impressed with how smooth the process was. “Everyone I talked to was just so nice and so understanding, non-judgmental and kept me in the loop.”

The best part? Sherel didn’t have to cut in to her retirement savings to cover the repair. The whole job, which would’ve cost over $4,100, was covered by her plan.

“I can’t express the shock I felt when I learned I would not be paying anything out of pocket for this repair. You never know when something like this will happen, and [HomeServe] has been a godsend.”

“We were customers of another company before and paid every single time something came up, but not with HomeServe - it was seamless,” she said.
