Bet’cha didn’t know! You can speed up your dishwasher’s run time by running the kitchen faucet on hot before starting a wash cycle. That’s because it takes your dishwasher 1 to 2 minutes to heat the water it uses by just 1 degree. And considering dishwashers heat the water they use by 120 to 145 degrees — well, you do the math.

Getting the water as hot as possible before starting a wash cycle gives your dishwasher a head start on heating up, closing the gap between the starting temperature of the water as it enters the dishwasher and the temperature it needs to reach to properly sanitize your dirty dishes, shortening the amount of time and effort it takes to get dishes clean and extending the lifespan of your appliance.
