Service Line Protection Available for City of Los Angeles Homeowners

LOS ANGELESCalifornia – October 16, 2019 – Service Line Warranties of America (SLWA) is pleased to offer sewer service line protection to residential customers served by the City of Los Angeles. SLWA’s coverage is optional for homeowners and is available at an affordable price, starting at $9.06 per month. That includes unlimited annual calls for service from SLWA with a generous $12,000 benefit maximum for each call. Additionally, there are no service fees or deductibles for homeowners to pay for covered repairs.

Approximately 700,000 private sewer lines connect residents to the 6,700 plus miles of sewer mains within the city. Those private sewer lines, also known as lateral lines, are the responsibility of the homeowner. They have the potential to become blocked or fail and require urgent repairs, which typically is not covered by basic homeowners insurance. The SLWA Service Line Warranty Program protects against repairs needed to pipes on homeowners’ property. A simple call to the SLWA 24-hour hotline will dispatch a local, licensed contractor familiar with local code. To ensure trustworthy contractors service SLWA customers, all contractors are in good standing and licensed by the California Department of Consumer Affairs and Contractor's State Licensing Board.

“Homeowners aren’t always aware that damage to the service lines on their property, such as the sewer line, are their responsibility to repair. These types of repairs can be very expensive, and homeowners don’t always have the ‘rainy day funds’ set aside to cover those unanticipated expenses,” said John Kitzie, CEO of SLWA parent HomeServe USA. “It’s a fact of life that infrastructure ages, and when it does it can be prone to breaking. And whether its old or new, homeowners are responsible for scheduling the repair and covering the associated cost. Our service plans not only cover the cost of the repair, they also provide homeowners with reputable, local contractors who will do the best possible job.”

Many factors contribute to the life expectancy of a service line including the age, type of piping material, soil conditions and installation quality - all factors that are covered through the SLWA protection program. This program is optional for residential customers, provided at no cost to the City of Los Angeles Bureau of Sanitation. No public funds are used to promote or administer the program.

Founded in 2003, SLWA has partnered with leading cities and municipalities across the U.S. to provide repair service plans that offer homeowners peace of mind and convenience. SLWA has been recognized as the nation's largest and most trusted source of utility line plans endorsed by the National League of Cities.
