Federal authorities are recalling some half a million electric ranges from the LG brand following reports of dozens of fires — some resulting in burn injuries and pet deaths, and causing hundreds of thousands of dollars in property damage. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the recalled kitchen appliances have front-mounted knobs that can be accidentally activated by people or pets, increasing the danger of a fire. The commission reportedly received 86 complaints of unintentional activation.

“These LG ranges have been involved in more than 28 fires,” the commission stated. “At least five fires caused extensive property damage totaling over $340,000. At least eight minor injuries have been reported, including burns, and there have been reports of three fires involving pet deaths.”

Safety officials announced the recall on Feb. 6, impacting LG Slide-In Ranges and Freestanding Ranges, manufactured in Mexico and Korea, and sold from 2015 through January 2025 for between $1,400 and $2,650 at Best Buy, Costco, The Home Depot, Lowe’s and other appliance dealers across the nation, as well as on the LG website. To determine whether your LG range is affected by the recall, search by model number and serial number (located inside the oven door or storage drawer on the bottom of the oven), here.

The commission urges range owners to contact LG for the recall remedy, a new warning label alerting users to activate the Lock Out/Control Lock function found on the range’s control panel, which disables the heating elements when the appliance isn’t in use. LG will send the label for free, along with instructions on how and where to properly affix it to the appliance. Call LG from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Eastern Time, Monday through Friday, at 800-399-3265, email lgrange.recall@lge.com, or go to https://lgecares.com/rangerecall and enter your information.

In the meantime, owners should keep children and pets away from the knobs, and make a habit of ensuring the controls are off before leaving home or going to bed, as well as to refrain from leaving anything on the range. Learn how to use the lockout function by watching this video

LG noted the ranges have other precautionary features to prevent safety issues.

“Be aware of LG ranges’ additional safety features, including a ‘Burner On’ indicator light, an alert beep that sounds when the burner is activated, and a hot surface indicator light,” the manufacturer stated.
