Groceries Stores That Are Open on Thanksgiving
I don’t know about you, but my Thanksgiving Day is never complete without a last-minute dash to the grocery store. Whether it’s because I cremated the dinner rolls or need extra cranberry sauce, I never seem to be fully prepared for the big day.
The frantic Google search of store hours (why are the results never correct?) and calling hoping someone will answer can seriously cut into valuable cooking time. This year, I have my handy list ready of grocery stores that are open on Thanksgiving:
Grocery Stores That Are Open on Thanksgiving
Whole Foods - All Whole Foods stores are expected to be open on Thanksgiving this year, according to Good Housekeeping. Customers should still check their website closer to the date for more accurate times.
Target - A great go-to for your last-minute needs, Business Insider predicts that Target will open its doors at 5 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day. If you’re having a late dinner this could be the best option for grabbing what you need and maybe finding an early Black Friday Deal while you’re there.
Walmart - Similar to Target, Walmart stores usually open at 6 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day in preparation for Black Friday. You’re sure to find the basics you need the most, and if you’re running tight on time consider cooking your dish in an Instant Pot.
Kroger - With a little more than 4,000 stores nationwide, Kroger will be maintaining regular hours, opening at 6 a.m. and closing around midnight. Some store hours do vary, so it may be worth it to call ahead.
Albertsons - If you need to grab an extra dessert, select stores will be open from 6 a.m. until at least 10 p.m. With locations across the Midwest and West Coast, it’s a safe bet they will have what you need.
Wegmans - Delish reports that most Wegmans stores will be open 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. with the exception of Massachusetts. All Massachusetts stores will be closed, instead you may want to head to some New England staples Shaw’s (open 7 a.m. to midnight) or Stop & Shop (closes early at 5 p.m.)
Stock up online
Amazon delivery - If you are looking for some of the lowest prices and want to ensure you’re ready for Thanksgiving, consider stocking up on groceries online. Amazon delivery services can be scheduled for delivery right before the big day, so you can take stock and purchase extras as a backup.
If you’re looking to hit multiple stores to find what you need, avoid Aldi’s, Trader Joe’s, Market Basket, Costco, Publix, Sam’s Club, and BJ’s Wholesale Club as they will definitely be closed on Thanksgiving Day.
