Labor Day

While Labor Day is the unofficial end of summer (sniff, sniff), it does spark joy in the hearts of shoppers like me. The three day weekend means Labor Day sales and some serious deals on things like grills, mattresses, TVs, and so much more. So now is the time to indulge in retail therapy to get over the loss of longer summer days, fun in the sun and BBQs.

Get a plan and peace of mind

While there are still some back to school sales going on, let’s take a look at some of the best Labor Day-themed sales. You’ll find deals not just for party essentials, but also on key purchases from retailers like Amazon, Best Buy and more:

Best sales at big-box-stores

It's convenient to do as much shopping as possible in each place you visit leading up to Labor Day, so why not focus on the sales at the all-purpose big-box stores closest to you? Here are a few noteworthy deal collections, as noted by Finder:

  • Target: While specifics vary by location, various Target sales leading up to - and immediately following - Labor Day include deals on patio furniture and accessories, vacuums and floor care products, clothing, electronics, sporting and outdoor goods, luggage and beauty products.
  • Macy's: The apparel and home goods store holds periodic one- or two-day previews of its fall sales. Be sure to check the website regularly for specifics on the full-fledged sale.
  • Sears: Need a new range top or grill to cook for hungry party guests? Sears' sale, active until Sept. 7, offers 40% off many appliances, plus extra deals for online shoppers.
  • Lowe's: The home improvement retailer has various appliances, tools, outdoor gear (new leaf blower, anyone?) and housewares on sale, with some items more than 30% off. (Check individual discount dates. Some expire Aug. 28 but many others stay in place until mid-September.)

Plenty of individual brands have pretty cool Labor Day sales available only through their websites or branded stores:

  • KitchenAid has certain appliance bundles (stand mixers with bowl sets, coffee makers and grinders) on sale for up to 50% off and is offering rebates up to $2,000 if you make big appliance purchases before Sept. 25.
  • Birch Lane began a sale Aug. 22 on bedding, dining furniture and other select categories that goes as high as 70% on certain items until Sept. 4.
  • Burrow is offering discounts between $50 and $600 on furniture purchases made before Sept. 8.
  • Joss & Main is discounting certain home renovation goods up to 80% and offering free shipping between Aug. 26 and Sept. 4.
