Eligibility: A homeowner or renter living in a residential home permanently secured to the ground may be eligible for coverage. Recreational vehicles or homes on wheels and properties used for commercial purposes are not eligible for coverage. Your property is not eligible if you are aware of any pre-existing conditions, defects or deficiencies with your electrical products prior to enrollment. If you own a residential property that has multiple units, you must purchase a service agreement for each individual unit for any one unit to be eligible.
Benefit Details: Coverage provides, up to the benefit amount, for the covered cost of repair, replacement, and if necessary, removal of the following residential electrical products that fail due to an electrical surge (an occurrence of a sudden and non-continuous increase or burst of electricity or electrical current, caused by natural or man-made events, including lightning strikes and power returns after an outage, which can result in failure of electrical products): consumer appliances, electronics and electrical devices including, but not limited to, refrigerators, clothes washers, clothes dryers, dishwashers, blenders, mixers, toasters, microwaves, televisions, window air conditioning units, thermostats, lamps, computers, DVD players, game consoles, printers, scanners and handheld devices such as tablets, for which you have sole responsibility.
Not covered: Heating and air conditioning systems, internal electrical systems, electrical plumbing equipment including sump pumps, medical or life support equipment, plug-in or electric vehicles of any kind, and battery operated items/devices that cannot be plugged in; electrical products with a replacement value of less than $100; any additional expenses incurred in repairing, replacing or removing electrical products that are affixed in your residential property; any cost associated with making space suitable for installation when a replacement electrical product does not fit in the existing space; loss or corruption of data and restoration of software and operating systems; electrical products that cannot be replaced with like kind and quality (e.g. antiques); damage from negligence or otherwise caused by you or others; consequential, incidental or punitive damages, including as a result of repairs; electrical product correction or upgrade. Your homeowners/renters insurance policy may cover damage from an electrical surge, but it may also have a deductible. The benefit of this coverage needs to be weighed against the cost of paying the deductible.
Making a Service Call: Your plan starts the day your order is processed, and there is an initial 30-day waiting period before you can make a service call, giving you 11 months of coverage during the first year. Upon renewal/reactivation (if applicable), you will not be subject to a waiting period.
Cancellation: You may cancel within 30 days of your start date for a full refund (or less any claims paid if cancelled at any time after renewal/reactivation, where applicable). Cancellations after the first 30 days will be effective at the end of the then-current billing month, and you will be entitled to a pro-rata refund less any claims paid (where applicable).
Renewal: Your coverage is based on an annual contract and is billed on a monthly basis. Your service agreement will be automatically renewed annually at the then-current renewal price. HomeServe is an independent company, separate from your utility company providing emergency home repair services and protection solutions to homeowners across the U.S.
