Eligibility: An owner or renter of a residential single structure, or a unit within a structure, that is not intended to be moved may be eligible for coverage. This includes single family homes (inclusive of manufactured housing), townhomes and apartments. A single structure that includes multiple units may also be eligible. If the residence is multifamily, you must provide the specific unit mailing address for each service agreement you purchase. Recreational vehicles and properties used for commercial purposes are not eligible. Your property is not eligible if you are aware of any pre-existing conditions, defects or deficiencies with your electrical products prior to enrollment. If your electrical products are entirely shared with any third party or covered by a homeowners', condominium or like association, or are not installed according to manufacturer specifications, then you are not eligible.
Benefit Details: Coverage provides for the covered cost of repair, replacement, or reimbursement (as applicable) for residential electrical products for which you have sole responsibility, that fail due to either a) an electrical surge (an occurrence of a sudden and non-continuous increase or burst of electricity or electrical current, caused by natural or man-made events, including lightning strikes and power returns after an outage, which can result in failure of electrical products), in which case they will be repaired or replaced up the benefit amount, and removed if necessary, or b) normal wear and tear, in which case you will be reimbursed up to $100 per year for repair or replacement.
Not covered: Heating and air conditioning systems, internal electrical systems, electrical plumbing equipment including sump pumps, medical or life support equipment, plug-in or electric vehicles, and battery operated items/devices that cannot be plugged in; electrical products with a replacement value of less than $100; any additional expenses incurred in repairing, replacing or removing electrical products affixed in your home; any cost associated with making space when a replacement electrical product does not fit in the existing space; loss or corruption of data and restoration of software and operating systems; electrical products that cannot be replaced with like kind and quality (e.g. antiques); damage from negligence or otherwise caused by you or others. Your homeowners/renters insurance policy may cover damage from an electrical surge, but it may also have a deductible. The benefit of this coverage needs to be weighed against the cost of paying the deductible.
Cancellation: You may cancel within 30 days of your start date for a full refund (or less any claims paid, if applicable). Cancellations after the first 30 days will be effective at the end of the then-current billing month, and you will be entitled to a pro-rata refund less any claims paid (where applicable).
Claims: Your plan starts the day your form is processed, and there is an initial 30-day waiting period before you can call to start a claim, giving you 11 months of coverage during the first year. Upon renewal/reactivation (if applicable), you will not be subject to a waiting period. Surge Claims: You must call HomeServe within 30 days of an electrical surge event to start a claim. Wear & Tear Claims: You must call HomeServe within 30 days of a failure due to normal wear and tear to request a claim form.
Renewal: The plan is annual. Unless you cancel, your plan automatically renews annually at the then-current renewal price and is billed on a monthly basis through your utility bill.
