Leading home assistance provider HomeServe has signed up to a new charitable partnership that will see its People work with children in schools across the West Midlands to boost their future career prospects.
The Walsall-based company has joined the ‘Inspiring the Futures’ programme which will give staff from all levels of the company the chance to go into state schools and colleges and pass on their experience, skills and knowledge.
Launched by the charity Education and Employers, Inspiring the Futures connects state schools and colleges with employers and people from the world of work and HomeServe will become one of the region’s biggest employers to sign up to the programme.
Volunteers from apprentices to CEOs pledge just one hour a year to visit a state school or college near where they live or work to talk to young people about their job and career route. The sessions could involve taking part in speed networking, careers fairs, CV workshops, mock interviews or simply helping out in a relevant subject lesson.
Greg Reed, Chief Marketing Officer at HomeServe, said; “We have some brilliant People working at every level at HomeServe. Inspiring the Futures is a fantastic opportunity for us to take some of that ability and experience and pass it on to the next generation of young people in the West Midlands.
“It’s also a great way for our People to develop their own skills and confidence which will benefit our Customers too. Inspiring the Futures is a wonderful project and we are delighted to be a part of it.”
Nick Chambers, Chief Executive of the Education and Employers charity said: “We are delighted to have HomeServe on board. With the company’s range of skills and abilities we know they are going to be able to make a real difference in the lives of the children that we work with.
“Inspiring the Futures is all about trying to help young people make informed choices. We want to dispel myths around certain jobs or professions and ensure that all young people have a realistic view of the world of work.
“Young people are a receptive, enthusiastic and inquisitive audience and we know they’ll respond positively to what HomeServe’s People are saying.”
