HomeServe Apprentices Volunteer with Homeless Charity

HomeServe Plumbing apprentices, currently completing their training at Walsall College gave something back to the community last week by volunteering to feed homeless people in Birmingham city centre.
As part of an enrichment project on their course, the trainee plumbers chose to support the work of the Midland Langer Seva Society, a Sikh organisation who have been providing food for those in need for a number of years.
On Thursday 19th May, the students took to the streets of Birmingham and helped to feed over 200 people.
HomeServe has supported the Midland Langar Seva Society for over a year, and its People have helped prepare 6,900 goody bags which are given out at the open kitchens, the purchasing of 7,800 samosas for evening feeds, donated a van and have volunteered 7,000 hours to help serve the food to the homeless.
Steve Humphreys, Team Leader for Construction and Building Technologies at Walsall College, said: “Previously the apprentices have opted to go go-karting and for team meals, so this was something very different that they all felt was a real eye opener and also very humbling.”

Having been out with the MLSS volunteers on numerous occasions, it really makes you appreciate how the smallest of gestures can make such a massive difference.
“It’s great to see our apprentices, who joined us last August, also out in our community with the same drive to help others that is part and parcel of our culture here at HomeServe.”
The apprentices are currently part way through a two-year training programme in partnership with one of the UK’s leadinghome assistance providers, HomeServe and Walsall College, in which on completion they will achieve a Level 2 Plumbing qualification.
