HomeServe sees rise in boiler cover sales and claims as Customers turn up the heat as temperature drops

After the coldest August for three years, and the temperature beginning to drop in the last two weeks, a leading home assistance company, HomeServe, has reported a sharp uplift in online boiler cover product sales and seen gas claims double as people across the UK begin to turn their central heating on.

With a weather forecaster reporting the possibility that the UK could experience its coldest winter for over 50 years, and the MET office advising temperatures could drop below average as we head into October, now is the perfect time to check your gas heating and that you are prepared for any emergencies that might arise.

Research carried out in 2013 by HomeServe shows that UK homes have to work hard during the big chill as we are a nation of warm home lovers, with nearly one in three householders (36%) having their house at a balmy 25 degrees or more, with one in 20 of us (5%) basking in a tropical 30 degrees – 10 degrees higher than the recommended 18-21°C.&sup Greg Reed, Chief Marketing Officer, HomeServe, said; “We all love our homes to be warm and cosy, and with colder temperatures being predicted, the last thing anyone needs is to be without heating and face the expense of repairs if something goes wrong.

“We want to make our Customers’ lives easier and as well as recruiting more engineers ahead of winter, we also have a range of offers available and have enhanced other services to help make sure homes can stay warm and our Customers can enjoy peace of mind during the colder winter months.”

As well as a range of insurance cover available through HomeServe, the company has also enhanced its ‘On Demand’ service, which charges a fixed fee for home emergencies where Customers do not have a policy.

The service now includes ‘Fix It, Cover It’, which offers the Customer the chance to spread the cost of any On Demand job as well as a insurance cover for 12 months, providing an affordable alternative with the peace of mind a policy can bring. Terms & Conditions apply – find out more online.

The cold and wet weather can also play havoc with your home’s pipes and drains so with the predicted chilly and rainy temperatures ahead, HomeServe’s offer of its Plumbing & Drainage Plus cover could be timely. Customers can snap up this cover for just 75p per month in the first year (terms & conditions apply) with £0 excess (£9 annual price) until 31st October 2015.

The policy is for homeowners who live in a house or bungalow, and covers blocked drains, water supply pipe and leaks with some exclusion. See HomeServe’s website for full information.
