Businesses and organisations across Walsall are joining forces to help paint the town red to mark a historic date in Walsall’s football heritage – 22 March 2015 – the date of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Final at Wembley.

Walsall Football Club, its sponsor HomeServe and Walsall Council recently launching a new initiative called “We’re with Walsall” – offering the community, club and fans an opportunity to showcase their support for the club’s achievement and for the borough.

Walsall’s popular hippo sculpture, affectionately known as Hoppy, has been painted in the club’s colours by local artist Sarah Watts of Human Canvas in Walsall town centre. The sculpture has recently been moved to a temporary location outside Walsall Central Library in Lichfield Street in anticipation of ongoing regeneration work in the town.

Walsall Football club, the council and Walsall-based HomeServe are calling on businesses and the community to get behind the “We’re with Walsall” campaign.

Stefan Gamble, Walsall FC’s CEO said: “This is Walsall’s time to show its support for the club, its history and its fans and to be proud that, together, ‘We’re with Walsall’! We want to encourage the people and businesses of Walsall to decorate their homes and places of work in the clubs colours, or come along to join the club and HomeServe in and whole range of activities leading up to the big match.”

Councillor Sean Coughlan, Walsall Council Leader said: “We’re delighted to see the club reach the final of the Johnstone Paint Trophy and wish Dean and the team the very best of luck. The campaign is a fantastic opportunity for everyone connected to the borough to show their support for the Saddlers’ trip to Wembley and hopefully bring back the cup back to Walsall.”

John Greaves, Director of Corporate Affairs for HomeServe added: “We were founded in Walsall 20 years ago last year and are now one of the town’s largest employers. We’re also the principle partner of Walsall FC so it makes absolute sense for us to declare our support for ‘We’re with Walsall’.

"We’re also delighted to be able to fund a range of events and activities for the community and fans linked to this campaign and to help paint the town red in advance of the biggest game in the club’s history.”
