How to get wax off carpets

It seemed like a good idea at the time, but after giving your lounge the soft, romantic glow of candlelight you've found that the inevitable drips of wax on your carpet don't look so good. Don't panic, because we know a few tricks to get your floor back to its former glory.

Step 1: Scrape off the excess

  1. Plug your iron in somewhere within reach of the waxy patch.
  2. Whilst you're waiting for it to warm up use a blunt knife to scrape off as much excess wax as possible.

Step 2: Iron

  1. Lay some brown paper or a paper towel over the remaining wax and iron over the top.
  2. Keep it moving slowly, just as you would when ironing clothes, and make sure you don't burn anything. The heat will cause the wax to melt and absorb into the paper.
  3. Keep ironing over a clean piece of paper or cloth until all the wax has been absorbed.
