Instructions

We all take it for granted that hot water will be available whenever we need it. But what happens if it goes wrong and instead of jumping into a piping hot shower in the morning, you find yourself shivering in ice cold water?

Most of us wouldn't have a clue where to start when things go wrong, but we at Homeserve are going to show you a few simple checks that you can do that might sort the problem out without the need to call in the professionals.

Step 1:
Before you check out the boiler, make sure that there is power going to the boiler. If you can't turn it on - check all switches are on and the fuse hasn't gone in the plug. Try putting a new fuse in the plug and seeing if this sorts out the problem.

Step 2: Have a quick check to make sure that your pump is running by feeling the side of the pump for motion. If it doesn't appear to be running, you will need to get a heating engineer in to investigate.

Step 3:
Now take a look at the bolier. You may be facing these cold showers because your thermostat is too low or maybe not even on. Check that the power switch is turned to on and that the thermostat controlling the water temperature is set high enough.

Step 4:
Make sure that the pilot light is lit. If it isn't, then your water ceratainly won't be hot. To re-light it, follow the instructions in the manual or on the side of the boiler.

If you have tried out all our troubleshooting tips and you are still faced with a cold shower, it's time to call in a heating engineer.
