Marie Curie Patient Policy
In addition to helping Marie Curie Cancer Care by raising funds, one of the key reasons the charity partnership was formed, is because HomeServe is ideally placed to provide free home emergency insurance cover to Marie Curie patients, giving practical support through our network of engineers at a very difficult time. It was to this end that we a launched a policy exclusively for Marie Curie patients back in 2010.
The Marie Curie Patient Policy covers practically every household emergency and other incident. The policy is absolutely free to patients as there are no call-out fees; and labour, parts and VAT are all included in the cover limits. To support the policy, a specialist team has been put in place who understand the specific needs of Marie Curie patients.
On 26 November we rolled-out the Marie Curie Patient Policy for another year. To date, 1,087 policies have been taken out and we've carried out 805 jobs in patient homes.
Phil Miles an engineer from Southampton carried out a job in a patient's home. Phil told us that he was able to help a bed-bound, terminally ill patient by restoring their washing and toilet facilities and how proud this made him to work for HomeServe. Watch a video of Phil's experience below.
If you or a relative are a Marie Curie patient and would like to benefit from the free policy speak to your Marie Curie Nurse or call 0800 032 3599.
Sarah Palmer, National Charity Manager at HomeServe, who is responsible for delivering the policy comments: "As a business, what we do best is fix things. Our engineers will go to a patient's home to do anything from fixing a boiler to unblocking a toilet. Marie Curie Nurses provide care to patients at home and we can help to make that home both safe and comfortable to live in."
Susan Munroe, Director of Nursing and Patient Services at Marie Curie Cancer Care, adds: "We're extremely grateful to HomeServe for offering our patients this cover. For patients and their families dealing with a terminal illness, one of the last things on their minds is household jobs and maintenance. HomeServe is offering a practical solution for patients and families, which provides peace of mind at a difficult time".
