About Milton

Milton is a village town just north of Cambridge (where it is best known for its Tesco's that includes the only petrol station in the area).

In the early 2000s, Milton acquired a reputation for having an unpleasant smell - the 'Milton Pong' - caused by its proximity to the Cambridge Sewage Works. In 2003 the South Cambridgeshire District Council took legal action against Anglian Water and as a result improvements have been made which considerably improved the situation; however the smell still occasionally reoccurs.

There are two areas of Milton which are of interest. The Cambridge Science Park is technically part of Milton, being just outside the city limits. The other area is the area known as Milton Detached or Chesterton Fen, being the section of Fen Road, Chesterton north of the railway line. However both of these areas are much more part of Cambridge than Milton, being to the south of the A14.
