Clean gutters
Water trapped in gutters caused by leaves and other debris can cause major damage to your roof and walls. Gain access to the roof with a ladder – only do this if you feel comfortable and safe using a ladder. Do not lean the ladder against a downspout or gutter. Using a glove, remove debris with your hand or a large spoon. Damp any caked on dirt and use a trowel carefully to loosen. Unclog any downspouts using a garden hose, being careful not to apply too much pressure – this will notify you of any leaks in the system. If you are in any doubt about your ability to perform the above tasks up a ladder you should call in the experts.

Clean your shower curtain
Shower curtains can easily gather soap and scum but are very easy to clean. If you have a vinyl or plastic shower curtain simply remove from the rings and place in the washing machine with four hand towels. Add washing detergent and bleach and run the washer as normal on a cold or warm run. The towels will act as scrubbers to remove scum. Then re-hang the curtain and open the bathroom window to allow the air to circulate.

Rodent-proof your home
Realising you share your home with furry rodents can be a terrifying experience. To avoid luring them food should always be kept in rodent-proof containers. Cover all holes and gaps in the wall around pipes and fix a bristle strip to the bottom of external doors. Use thin mesh to cover ventilation holes and fit cone guards to the bottom of drainpipes. Dispose of rubbish and any fallen fruit and ensure bins have sturdy lids.
