Northern Ireland - The Warm Homes Scheme

If you live in Northern Ireland, the Warm Homes and Warm Homes Plus schemes could help you keep your home warm and energy efficient, making sure you stay cosy all year round.

What is the Warm Homes scheme?

The Warm Homes scheme is funded by the Department for Social Development and aims to help householders* in Northern Ireland make their homes warmer and more energy efficient.

The scheme can provide a range of insulation solutions to homes on a qualifying benefit, including assistance with the following (click on the bullet points below to find out more):

What is the Warm Homes Plus scheme?

The Warm Homes Plus scheme provides a range of insulation and heating measures to households in receipt of a qualifying benefit and which are without heating or have one of the following heating systems:

  • Solid Fuel
  • Economy 7
  • Bottles Gas (LPG)
  • No heating system

In addition, qualifying householders* may be eligible for:

  • Installation of a fully controlled, energy-efficient oil or gas central heating system where no system currently exists.
  • Conversion of an existing bottled gas (LPG), solid fuel or Economy 7 heating system to oil or natural gas (if you live in an area where natural gas is available, that will be the fuel of choice).

Am I eligible for the Warm Homes scheme?

You may be eligible for the Warm Homes Scheme if you are a householder* and in receipt of one or more of the following benefits:

  • Income Support
  • Income Related Employment Support Allowance
  • Income Based Job Seeker's Allowance
  • Pension Credit
  • Child Tax Credit (with relevant income less than £15,860)
  • Working Tax Credit
  • Disability Living Allowance
  • Attendance Allowance
  • Housing Benefit

Housing Executive and Housing Association tenants do not qualify for this scheme.

Am I eligible for Warm Homes Plus?

You may qualify for the Warm Homes Plus scheme if you receive one or more of the following benefits and have no heating system, or have been identified (through assessment) to have a Solid Fuel, Economy 7 or Bottles Gas (LPG) heating system.

  • Housing Benefit
  • Income Support
  • Income Related Employment Support Allowance
  • Income Based Job Seekers Allowance
  • Pension Credit
  • Working Tax Credit
