The gas in your home or business is provided by a gas supplier, who must be licensed by Ofgem to sell gas.
The National Grid connects power stations and major substations, ensuring electricity generated in the UK can be used effectively to satisfy consumer demand. They do not sell gas.
How do I get a gas connection?
If you need a new gas supply or want to have your existing gas service pipe altered/ disconnected, you can choose from a range of companies to undertake this work for you. Call 0870 903 9999 for information on how to arrange a new connection or alter an existing connection in one of the National Grid's networks.
What do I do if I have a problem with my gas meter?
Your gas meter is provided by your gas supplier, who also arranges for your meter to be read – you will need to contact them if you're having any issues with your gas meter.
If you're unsure of your gas supplier or don't have a gas meter yet, call the M Number Enquiry Line on 0870 608 1524 and ask for your MPRN (Meter Point Reference Number). This is the unique identifier for your gas supply point and the identity of the current registered gas supplier at your property.
