Complete loss of heating

Not so bad in summer, a nightmare in the winter. You'll know when you've suffered a complete loss of heating when it's warmer on the outside than it is inside. The good news is you'll save a bundle on heating bills…

If you're keen to take on the task yourself, here are a few things you can try to get your system up and running.

Check the system

  1. Is your boiler working?
Make sure the power supply is on and the fuse is working. If your fuse has blown, it's advisable to use a professional electrical engineer for safe repairs.
  2. Is the gas or oil supply turned on?
If you’ve got a gas supply problem, you’ll need to contact your gas supplier. In the case of oil, check there’s enough oil in the tank by reading the gauge.
  3. Is your programmer on?
Check that the programmer is in the 'on' position and that the thermostats are turned up high enough
  4. Is the pump is running?
If not, we recommend you enlist a professional gas engineer to fix the problem, as this can be difficult to do yourself.
  5. Is the pilot light is turned on?
If the pilot light has switched off, relight it by following your manufacturer's manual or the instructions on your boiler
