Changing a Light Bulb
So you can use a computer to browse the internet but you still don't know how to change a light bulb? It’s quite simple. Just follow these directions to reach enlightenment.
Of course, it may not be the light bulb, in which case you should inspect the Electrical Light Switch or Electrical Wiring for any signs of wear or tear. Refer to the linked article to get more details.
Top Tips
As always safety is crucial when working with electrical or wiring faults.
- Check the wattage on the used bulb and replace it with a bulb of the same wattage.
- The used bulb must be disposed of ensuring it is out of reach of children.
- It is important that you do not put your fingers in the exposed light socket.
What to do
- First, make sure the power is turned off. The safest way to do this is to switch the large red power button to ‘off’ on the fuse box.
- Allow the bulb to cool before touching it.
- Ensure you can safely reach the bulb by using a stepladder.
Bayonet Mount (Most common in the UK)
- Grasp the bulb lightly but firmly and turn counter clockwise until it is released from the socket.
European Screw Fitting
- Keep gently twisting counter clockwise till the bulb comes loose from the socket
- Insert a replacement bulb lightly but firmly into the socket, and either turn it clockwise until it locks into place or keep gently twisting clockwise till it won’t go any further.
- Once the bulb is in, turn the power back on again and switch on the light.
- The old bulb needs to be disposed of safely as the light bulb’s glass in is fragile and very sharp. Use the packaging from the new bulb to wrap the old one in for safe disposal.
